Choy 120' Superyacht
Concept
Luxury and Comfort x2
Stabilizers: Not required.
Twice the space.
Of all the conceivable applications of the multihull concept to
contemporary yachting, none is more compelling than that of the
catamaran superyacht.
The dramatic improvements in stability, accommodations space, and
performance promised by the large cat configuration demand serious
consideration by today's yacht owner bored by a virtual "sea"
of sameness in the contemporary megayacht market.
Today's larger conventional motor yachts rely on expensive stabilizers
- almost a necessity - to achieve acceptable stability performance
underway, albeit with an accompanying impact on power requirements
and upon fuel efficiency. And these systems do nothing to reduce
the tendency to roll at anchorage, or dockside, inherent even in
yachts of the 300-foot range. By contrast, even smaller catamarans
evidence minimal roll, at anchorage and in a seaway, when compared
with their monohull counterparts.
Current trends favor longer and "taller" yachts; this
trend is certainly driven by the desire for greater accommodations
space. More staterooms, larger and more sophisticated floor plans,
increased amenities, enhanced water recreation capabilities - these
are all factors demanding increasingly larger yachts. But even a
cursory examination of the economics of doubling a prospective yacht
from 150 to 300 feet can prove a sobering exercise. Meanwhile, our
120-footer has the usable living space of a conventional 200 footer!
With today's practice of longer, extended, even trans-oceanic voyages,
performance and economy are important issues, particularly when
one considers the current instability in the global petroleum market.
Our superyacht can deliver the same cruising speeds and fuel economy
as her conventional yacht counterpart with smaller engines, or when
equipped with similar powerplants, can deliver higher cruising and
top speeds with the same fuel consumption as the conventional yacht.
With our extensive catamaran experience, Choydesign is uniquely
qualified to create what, we believe, is the next wave in megayacht
evolution: the catamaran Superyacht.
