HIGH SPEED FERRY
South Pacific Islands
Designed
for high-speed operation, this 130-foot L.O.A. catamaran is capable
of carrying a full load of passengers and freight at speeds of in
excess 35 knots. Unlike many currently operating designs,
our concept ferry can do this in ocean conditions of up to Force
5.
This makes her ideal for use between islands in Pacific Rim countries
where, typically, rough swells can occur between the placid atoll/barrier
reef systems that dominate this hemisphere. Equally, she is at home
in other areas throughout the world wherever shallow-draft and/or
high-speed requirements exist. She is equally at home in deep-draft
environments as well.
Her standard configuration includes U.S. Coast Guard certification,
however certification or classification with other regulatory agencies
can be accommodated. This design can also be configured for mixed
utilization with passengers and freight, either using aircraft igloo
containers, broken bulk freight, etc. She can be configured with
numerous loading options to accommodate pier-side operation or operation
directly from the beach, where no facilities exist. Forward, aft
or side-opening passenger cargo hatches can be fitted in infinite
combinations.
Hull construction is of aluminum with lightweight composite preferred
for the superstructure, but with aluminum construction also available.
Power can be conventional, using normally aspirated or turbocharged
diesels and propellers or water jets, or alternatively, gas turbines
and water jets can be used.
